Speaking to SuperSport TV after the game, Davids said: “When the opposition coach, Stuart Baxter, comes to you afterward and apologizes for the penalty, saying that we should have gotten a penalty in the second half and for the challenge on Terrence Dzvukamanja late on, you know the story.”

Baxter then clarified what he said to Davids in a virtual press conference soon after the claim was made on national TV, saying he DID NOT apologize whatsoever.

Furthermore, Baxter made it clear that it is NOT in his nature to apologize to an opposition coach for winning a football match.

“Let me clear up what I actually said to Fadlu after the game because I went up to him, and I don’t like rubbing people’s noses in,” Baxter told reporters.

“So, I tried to be a little bit politically correct. So, I said, ‘these refereeing decisions, they can go both ways etc’. Very nondescript.

“I wasn’t apologizing for anything. That is not in my nature to apologize for winning,” he continued.

“But I did say that decisions go for you or they don’t go for you. His answer to that was, ‘yeah, we know, well done, good performance’. And I said, ‘you and Mandla are doing a good job’; that was our conversation,” explained Baxter.
