Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mabedi believes that the current crop of players at Naturena aren’t good enough.

Mabedi, who currently works with the Malawi national team, feels the club’s scouting has let them down.

Current Kaizer Chiefs players are not good enough

The icon has lamented the quality of the current squad.

“You know Kaizer Chiefs is a big team. It needs players who can play for a team of Chiefs’ calibre. From where I stand Chiefs’ players lack quality and passion. They are not passionate enough to die on the field for the team. And again I don’t see dedication, commitment and integrity. It’s unlike Chiefs to lose the way the are losing now and it’s all because they lack quality and passion. It’s really bad for the team,” Mabedi told Soccer Laduma.

“All they need to do next season is recruit the players who are Chiefs quality. We can not compete with other teams if we don’t have quality. All I can urge is the powers that be, maybe to find a way of going back to the past and reintroduce the Kaizer Chiefs way of scouting and recruiting players and going back to winning ways and lifting trophies. We need that right now,” Mabedi concluded.

Marks Maponyane reveals how he feels Kaizer Chiefs should solve their crisis

Marks Maponyane insists that this would see some players step up to keep their place in the squad.

The icon feels the players need to know that they have humiliated the fans.

“What needs to be done is to read the riot act to the prayers.

“Tell them how they embarrassed the supporters, the faithful of Kaizer Chiefs and then take it from there and say how do we solve this,” Maponyane suggested.

The Kaizer Chiefs way or the highway

Maponyane added that players need to know that a contract is no guarantee of a stay at Naturena.

“We solve this by giving them an ultimatum that ‘by the way the contract that you signed doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to be here, your performance determines whether you’re here or not’,” Maponyane continued in his lament of Kaizer Chiefs current state.

Naturena must be fair

He added that players also need to be given a chance to work on their weaknesses and need to be well-coached.

“And then we might see something different from the players but not neglecting the fact that you still need to work on what they lack on,” Maponyane added.

“Because you can’t just keep on telling the child that, ‘You’re not good at this, you’re not good at that’ but you’re not showing or teaching the child,” he added.

Kaizer Chiefs play host to beleaguered Swallows in the DStv Premiership on Saturday. While the Glamour Boys could end the day as high as fourth in the PSL a poor performance could doom Cavin Johnson to an early sacking.
