Kaizer Chiefs have already had two coaches this season, making it three in two campaigns.

Arthur Zwane was in-charge at Chiefs last season, before being replaced by Molefi Ntseki ahead of the current campaign.

To the majority of the Chiefs fan base, Ntseki was already an unpopular appointment, with no positive track record. Prior to taking over the first team reigns, he had never coached a senior professional side. He did, however, coach Bafana Bafana after Stuart Baxter, before being fired for failing to qualify for AFCON 2021. The duo reunited as part of a new structure at Amakhosi, which put him in charge of football development.

Ntseki did not last long as Chiefs coach, however, being sacked before even the halfway mark of the season. This came after an unconvincing start to the campaign which also saw them knocked out of two cups. After being relieved of his duties, the club appointed Johnson to take over on an interim basis. Coincidently, Cavin Johnson also came into the club in a developmental role, before being asked to steady the senior ship.

But prior to Johnson being given the role, former Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael says he was interested. He went as far as saying he stated his case to the Chiefs management.

Eymael wanted Chiefs job

“We tried to discuss with Kaizer Chiefs, they knew my position, they knew my CV, I don’t know why they decided to go with Cavin Johnson. After Cavin Johnson won some games some people started to call him a Messiah. Not to criticise anybody, but I think Kaizer Chiefs have a very good team this season, lacking only one or two things. It’s been a long time now since they won any trophy. My work is talking for me after we succeeded at Free State Stars after 24 years of not winning any trophies.” Said Eymael to KickOff.com

Eymael then went as far as saying he knows what he would do if Chiefs gave him the job.

“What I would say to Amakhosi players”

“They have a good team to compete, but unfortunately, they couldn’t. There’s a problem with the competition for places, the desire for trophies, the guts of being consistent, the guts of winning, the guts to take every game like a Gnal. I can bring back all that. What I will say to the Chiefs players it’s the same thing I said to my boys at Free State Stars. At one stage we were number 2 in the league. When you enter the pitch wearing a Kaizer Chiefs kit you must aim for a win, this is one the biggest teams in Africa. Such clubs are all about winning trophies. You must hate losing. “I contacted Chiefs some weeks before they announced Cavin Johnson as a head coach. It was at that time when my agent spoke to Kaizer Motaung Jnr, and the response was not a positive one.” Said Eymael.
