City to slam door shut on this Chiefs player pursuit

It’s no secret that during this past transfer window, Chiefs were very interested in talented Mduduzi Mdantsane, who is a highly valued player at Cape Town City.

City head coach Eric Tinkler recently suggested the club had virtually accepted they would be losing the talented player until the deal unexpectedly fell through.

“The little that I know, it was very, very close, it was literally last minute that Kaizer Chiefs opted not to go through with the deal,” Tinkler told Marawa Sports Worldwide.

Yet, there have been whispers that Amakhosi may once again reignite interest in the midfielder, with that sort of recent talk continuing to grow louder and louder.

According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs are likely to make another effort to secure the services of the playmaker, although they would have to splash the cash to succeed as Cape Town City are said to have exercised the one-year option in his contract that was ending in June.

However, City chairman John Comitis has said that after opting to exercise the one-year option his contract, they will also look at securing his services in the long-term.

“With Mdu, we’ll sit with him and extend it even longer. We’ll give him a new contract. With us, he’s part of our plans, he’s an asset to the club and we’ll continue with him,” he told Soccer Laduma.

It’s unclear why Chiefs’ previous pursuit of Mdantsane fell flat

Tinkler has said they wouldn’t have stood in the player’s way if there was a great opportunity for him elsewhere.

“Those clubs Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns, those are obviously targets for the players to go,” Tinkler added. “Those clubs can pay the players quite a substantial amount of money to sustain themselves, so I’ll never stand in a way of that happening.

“Obviously, you don’t want to be losing some of your best players, but I’ve accepted that. I’ve always believed that there will be another Mdantsane out there that we will find.”

AMAKHOSI HAD A RELATIVELY QUIET JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
