Chippa United announced the appointment of a new coach on Monday afternoon, with Lehlohonolo Seema taking up the hot seat.

This was just moments after the former Orlando Pirates defender resigned from the helm at one of the PSL outfits he represented as a player, Bloemfontein Celtic.

He replaces ex-Bucs assistant coach Rulani Mokwena, who left the Port Elizabeth-based outfit after his six-month loan contract came to an end in June.

Chippa confirmed the appointment via a statement on Monday.

“Chippa United FC hereby confirms that the team has with immediate effect appointed Lehlohonolo Simon Seema as its head coach on a three-year contract,” read the Chippa statement.

“Coach Seema joins the Chilli Boys from Bloemfontein Celtic, where he put in notable performances and his abilities as a coach at the highest level were evident.

“Chairman of the club, Mr Siviwe Mpengesi, expressed his support for Coach Seema and expressed his confidence in a winning combination between the coach and the ambitions of Chippa United FC during his tenure.”

Big reshuffle at Bloem Celtic

Seema arrives in the Windy City having spent his entire coaching career at Celtic.

The former Lesotho international captain has taken up several coaching roles at Phunya Sele Sele, including that of academy mentor, as well as a couple of stints as caretaker coach.

He ascended to the helm on a permanent basis for the first time ahead of the 2019/20 season, and guided Celtic to ten victories in 28 matches across competitions.

Following his departure, Celtic announced the appointment of former midfielder John Maduka as head coach, with two more ex-players also promoted to mentorship roles in the first team.

Former Bafana shot-stopper Simon Gopane has been appointed as goalkeeper coach, while ex-midfielder Abram Nteo becomes assistant coach.
