Chiefs veteran’s club departure CONFIRMED – report

As widely expected, Kaizer Chiefs defender Eric Mathoho is set to part ways with the club after more than a decade at Naturena.

For quite time, increasing talk has suggested that time is running out on Eric Mathoho‘s time at Kaizer Chiefs after he recently suffered another frustrating injury setback, which has effectively brought a premature end to a disappointing final season at Naturena.

According to online publication Unplayable, sources have confirmed that the 33-year-old will not be a Glamour Boy next season.

According to another recent article FARPost, Mathoho was always expecting to see an end to his 11-year stay at Chiefs – with the 33-year-old having joined the club from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2012. 

“He’s now aware that he will not be at the club next season after it was communicated to him. He hasn’t played much under Arthur Zwane and the signs were there for all to see,” a Kaizer Chiefs source told FARPost.

Mathoho is not expected to make a comeback before Chiefs’ season ends

The veteran defender recently reflected on the strange injury setback that prevented him from making a return to action this month.

“The way I got my (latest) injury, we were playing a friendly match with the DDC… I was sprinting and after that I tried to tackle the ball. But the way I landed it was somehow (wrong).

“I didn’t even know whether it was a hamstring or joint because my leg was painful, but after that I went for a scan and they found something there in my groin…”
