So far it’s fair to say it’s largely been another erratic season for Kaizer Chiefs, with injuries and inconsistency having blighted the campaign for Amakhosi.

By all accounts, coach Arthur Zwane retains the full faith of club bosses, but there are certain to be some comings and goings in terms of playing personnel.

Below we take a look at some players who are linked with interesting transfer talk.

Cole Alexander

Injuries have blighted the progress of Alexander during recent times at Amakhosi, and with an increasingly limited amount of game-time, it remains to be seen whether Chiefs will retain faith in the 33-year-old beyond this season.

Alexander was said to have signed a three-year deal when he joined Chiefs in 2021, but he could possibly be put on the transfer list or released early if he is not in the technical team’s plans going forward.

According to the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, Stellenbosch are monitoring Alexander’s situation, and they could want to welcome him to the Cape, especially considering key playmaker Sibusiso Mthethwa has been linked with Amakhosi.

Other rumours have suggested that Alexander could head to SuperSport United where he would be reunited with former coach Gavin Hunt. However, no decision has been made one way or another just yet.

CHIEFS AND STELLENBOSCH HAVE A GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIP

Junior Mendieta

With Alexander possibly heading out of Naturena, there is continued talks that Chiefs are interested in signing Stellenbosch’s Junior Mendieta.

Reports suggest that Mendieta has been recognised as a sought-after player who could improve Chiefs’ offence, although they would have to pay a sizeable transfer fee considering he is under contract at Stellies, and viewed as a integral member of the team.

There is reportedly no official offer as yet, but this is a rumour to keep track of as squad planning continues for the 2023/24 campaign. It will particularly be interesting to see whether Stellies would be open to letting the talented player go, or if they’d block any Chiefs advances.
