Chaine breaks silence on amazing Orlando Pirates night

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has opened up on his man-of-the-match performance against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers won back-to-back MTN8 titles on Saturday night after dramatically defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in a penalty shootout following a goalless draw.

The MTN8 title, is the third cup title triumph for Jose Riveiro since joining the club at the beginning of last season.

Sipho Chaine put in an incredible performance for his side, saving three penalty kicks in the shootout!

“You have to believe in your ability and what you want to accomplish. Sometimes it’s not easy but it builds character.” – the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper said as quoted by Citizen.

“That save (against Zwane) in the first half was really a confidence booster. The goalkeeper is very important to keep the team in the game when it’s really tough.

“We try by all means to play a certain way the coach wants us to play. It’s a risky way of doing things but I think it works for us.”

In other news, Orlando Pirates legend Jomo Sono has heaped praise on Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena.

Mokwena’s side have successfully qualified for yet another CAF Champions League group stage round. Add to that the upcoming MTN8 final where they’ll take on the Buccaneers.

Mokwena’s side are also running away with the DStv Premiership title, after an incredible 100% start to the campaign with eight wins in as many matches.

Pirates legend Jomo heaps praise on Rhulani Mokwena

“I think the difference with him is [that] he’s passionate about football, he’s passionate about coaching.” the Orlando Pirates icon said as quoted by SABC SPORT.

“He works so hard, I think he works 24 hours that guy, I don’t think he sleeps. I don’t think he’s got a bed, I think his bed is a laptop. He just wants to look at football, new tactics, and blah, blah, blah. You can see the signs of hard work.

“I think at Sundowns they gave him the platform, I think other teams didn’t give him the platform – they didn’t understand, they wanted the success now.”
