Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro explains why he is not thinking about Kaizer Chiefs just yet but focusing on celebrating.

Orlando Pirates are in a celebratory mood after beating Sekhukhune United and the boss Jose Riveiro says he is not thinking about Kaizer Chiefs.

The Spaniard understands they endured a frustrating spell in the past few matches in the DStv Premiership as they last won back in August.

Pirates ended a four-match winless run when they beat Babina Noko 1-0 courtesy of Thabiso Monyane’s solitary strike in Soweto.

CELEBRATING PIRATES BOSS RIVEIRO NOT FOCUSING ON CHIEFS

In their next match, Pirates will head to FNB Stadium for a league date with their old rivals, Chiefs, but Riveiro is not focusing on the clash.

While he says they are looking to remain consistent, the MTN8 winner denied the talk that he was frustrated but praised his troops.

“I am so happy for the boys because this is a relief for them. I am not even thinking [about] the next one, the Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs because we still have to celebrate tonight,” Riveiro told the media.

“The last days weren’t easy for us even though we were conscious that we were playing good football.

“We needed this win, we really needed it. We need to celebrate the small victories as well, not only when we win trophies.

“The guys are working hard to get the results, so we need to understand how difficult it is to win games.”

PIRATES EYEING CONSISTENCY AHEAD OF CLASH VS. CHIEFS

Pirates were also tipped to challenge log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns when looking at Masandawana’s dominance, but they are yet to show any signs of that.

However, Riveiro insists on the importance of maintaining consistency as they now have 12 points at number nine on the log table.

“We are here to win games. Pirates are trying to win frequently… we are trying to be consistent,” Riveiro adds.

The two Soweto giants will meet at the Calabash and will welcome hitman Zakhele Lepasa, who is back from suspension.
