Johnson bemoans wastefulness

Chiefs were dumped out of the Nedbank Cup by a club in their first season as a professional outfit. There was no way past Man of the Match, Milford goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza. He pulled off several saves, a penalty stop in extra time and then slotted the winning spot-kick.

“Not a good day at the office for Chiefs, we had like 80% possession of the ball as the other team sat back the whole game and from the first whistle for the game, we had four clear chances besides the other 15 that could have gone in,” Johnson said after the game at FNB Stadium.

“But there were four clear ones and we missed a penalty, when you think about the game and having two clear chances in the first 15 minutes, we don’t put it away and towards the end of the first half we don’t score a penalty with two minutes to go…

“There’s so many moments we didn’t score the goals and didn’t dominate the opponent correctly and we lost the game on penalties, but like we always say, you try and score and play until the fat lady sings and today she sang for the opposition.

“Unlucky for Kaizer Chiefs, not a good pill to swallow now, we wanted to maintain our record in this cup and it wasn’t to be, we have to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves and play for the league, as hard as we can. If I invited you to my changing room, you will see a lot of sad boys.”

Chiefs look set for another trophyless season, out of the domestic cup competitions and a massive 15 points adrift of runaway DStv Prem leaders Sundowns.
