CAF in talks with Victor Gomes over retirement – report

The Confederate of African Football (CAF) is reportedly in talks with South African referee Victor Gomes to try and change his mind about retirement.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is reportedly in talks with South African referee Victor Gomes to try and change his mind about retirement.

Weekend reports claimed that Gomes will be retiring from refereeing after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar as reported on The South African website.

However, according to SABC Sport, CAF is trying to oersuade Gomes not to retire just yet as they still rate him highly.

Part of the reason CAF wants Gomes to continue officiating is the fact that there are a number of big tournaments in the next two years.

The commencement of the African Super League in August 2023 is one of the reason CAF is working on having Gomes on board.

VICTOR GOMES HAS BEEN A REFEREE FOR 14 YEARS

Gomes made his PSL debut as a referee in 2008 and he became an international referee in 2011.

The 39-year-old won his first referee of the season award during the 2012-13 season and added another four seasons later.

In 2021, Gomes took Africa by storm as officiated in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between Senegal and Egypt.
