Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has tipped Patrick Maswanganyi to replace Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane.

Maswanganyi’s career has been on the rise since joining the Buccaneers from SuperSport United this season.

The 25-year-old has scored three times and provided two assists in the DStv Premiership.

Broos awarded the attacking midfielder with a call-up following his Man of the Match display against Kaizer Chiefs.

“Maswanganyi… so what I saw from him and I think he can be the one for the future to replace Themba Zwane,” said Broos as per Sowetan Live.

“I saw him playing [last] Wednesday [against Cape Town Spurs] and after the game, we talked with Helman [Mkhalele, his deputy] and we said mhh [doubting if Maswanganyi was ready for Bafana].

Broos tips Tito to replace Themba Zwane

“But then I saw him playing on Saturday [against Chiefs], and he played a very good game and this is what I want to see from him in Bafana Bafana, so when he can achieve that level also with us, he can be someone for the future. He can be someone who can replace Themba[Zwane].”

Tito is yet to represent Bafana but is expected to debut when the national team play Androrra and Algeria.

For months, fans have pleaded with Broos to select the Bucs attacker as cover for Themba Zwane.

Mshishi is almost 35 and has probably played in his last major tournament for Bafana.

If Broos can take Bafana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it’s unlikely; that Zwane will feature in his squad. If he does, he might be brought on as a substitute, if he can still operate at the highest level.

Maswanganyi is already a star at Pirates having only played eight months.

Tito has been a man for big occasions and his next test awaits with Bafana Bafana next week.
