For almost two years now, some fans have called Hugo Broos to include Gaston Sirino into the Bafana Bafana squad.

The 32-year-old Uruguayan winger has been instrumental for Mamelodi Sundowns for nearly five years but has failed to impress the Uruguay national team coach.

Sirino unlikely to play for Bafana Bafana

After playing in the PSL for over five years, he is now eligible for Bafana selection.

Broos however is not convinced, given the player’s situation at Downs and also his age.

“You know in Cameroon I had a lot of players with two nationalities,” he said on SABC 1 on Thursday as per iDiski Times.

“For me it’s not important which nationality they are, it’s important that they have the South African nationality and then if it’s a good player, who shouldn’t I take him?

“But for example you talk about Sirino, but you again to a player who is 32. That means in two years he is 34.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea, because you can have him maybe for AFCON and then you to look again for other players who will be as good as he is now in 2026.” Broos said.
