According to local reports, Arthur Zwane will remain with Kaizer Chiefs in an exciting, brand-new role. What does that mean for his surname namesake Samkelo?

Zwane primed for new role at Kaizer Chiefs

SoccerLaduma reports that Amakhosi legend Arthur Zwane will rake over Cavin Johnson’s old role as Head of Youth Development.

Having served in a number of vocations at the club like the DStv Diski Challenge Head coach, First team assistant coach and the first team head coach, Arthur Zwane is the man touted to take over Johnson’s role. There has been a lot of uncertainty regarding Zwane’s role at Chiefs, with the club merely stating that he would be returning to ‘his previous role’ though it is uncertain which role that is. Zwane has been hard at work, acquiring his necessary coaching badges, and is on the brink of obtaining his UEFA B license through the Irish FA. He has been a part of part of the club for over 22 years, stretching back to his time as a player.”

What about Samkelo?

The previous consensus was that 22-year-old Samkelo Zwane would leave on loan at the start of 2024-2025. However, with Siyethemba Sithebe released and huge doubts over the future of Edson Castillo, the club could keep Zwane around.

Incomin Chiefs boss loses a cup final

Meanwhile, Nasreddine Nabi’s FAR Rabat side lost the Throne Cup Final on Monday 1 July against Raja Casablanca. Raja, coached by former Pirates manager Josef Zinnbauer, pipped Nabi to the Botola Pro 1 League crown by a single point. This means that Nabi’s move to Kaizer Chiefs will be finalized soon. He could plausibly fly to South Africa this week to be officially unveiled. Interim boss Cavin Johnson was officially sacked this week.

Amakhosi looking to make a huge profit on ADP

One player who might not feature under Nasredine Nabi is striker Ashley Du Preez. The former Stellies man is the subject of intense interest from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes. They’re in advanced negotiations with Chiefs over the 26-year-old. If the club can recoup R30 million for him, that would represent a 200% profit on a signing they made exactly two years ago.
