Bonfils-Caleb hits hat-trick as Kaizer Chiefs beat Stellenbosch

Kaizer Chiefs registered their third successive win of the season, beating Stellenbosch FC 3-1 at DHL Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana netted a hat-trick of penalties for Chiefs after Nhlanhla Mgaga had given Stellenbosch the lead in the first half.

Amakhosi went into the encounter seeking their third straight win of the season, and they needed a big performance to do that given how they have struggled in the past against Stellenbosch.

The first half saw Chiefs create a lot of opportunities with Ashley du Preez and Kgaogelo Sekgota guilty of missing them.

Stellies then opened the scoring through Mgaga who netted from the edge of the box after 30 minutes following a mistake by Njabulo Blom.

However, that goal sparked Chiefs into life as they took the game to Stellenbosch, and they were rewarded with a penalty on the stroke of half-time when Caleb was brought down inside the box.

Caleb dusted himself up and sent Sage Stephens the wrong to make it 1-1 for Kaizer Chiefs going into the second half.

It is worth mentioning that Chiefs suffered an injury blow before the break as Itumeleng Khune had to be replaced by Brandon Petersen due to groin injury.

Chiefs continued where they left off in the first half as they were awarded another penalty, this time for a handball in the 48th minute.

Caleb again stepped up and fired past Stephens to make it 2-1 to Chiefs, much to the delight of Amakhosi fans out in the stands.

The Burundi international was again in the thick of things as he was handled and tripped by Mogamed de Goede inside the box in the 56th minute.

Caleb stood up and made the points safe with a clean penalty to complete his hat-trick of goals and secure Chiefs maximum points.
