Bloemfontein Celtic 1-1 Bidvest Wits: PSL highlights and results

Bidvest Wits dropped points once again after playing out to a disappointing 1-1 draw against Bloemfontein Celtic in the PSL on Thursday afternoon

Bloemfontein Celtic and Bidvest Wits played out to a 1-1 draw at the University of Pretoria stadium in their PSL clash on Thursday afternoon.

Both goals on the day came via the penalty spot during an afternoon which saw both Bloemfontein Celtic and Bidvest Wits disappointingly drop valuable points in the PSL.

Bloemfontein Celtic 1-1 Bidvest Wits: PSL match report

Bidvest Wits were rewarded for their blistering PSL start after being awarded with a penalty inside two minutes. Bloemfontein Celtic’s Wandisile Letlabika was rightfully penalised for catching the ankle of Terrance Dzukamanja.

Bidvest Wits’ Keagan Ritchie made no mistake from the penalty spot slotting it into the far corner and in the process scoring his first goal of the PSL season.

Motebang Sera almost found an immediate equalizer for Bloemfontein Celtic in the 6th minute however his effort from inside the six yard box lacked power leaving Bidvest Wits’ Ricardo Goss with an easy save to make.

Ndumiso Mabena came close to drawing level for Bloemfontein Celtic against Bidvest Wits with a powerful freekick from the edge of the box however he Ricardo Goss was on hand to deny Mabena his ninth PSL goal of the season.

Mabena was not to be denied in the 35th minute after Bloemfontein Celtic were awarded a penalty themselves. The former Orlando Pirates attacker calmly slotted home to level the PSL match.

Motebang Sera came close to giving Celtic the lead before half-time however his effort went just wide of the Bidvest Wits goal to keep things level heading into the half-time break in the PSL clash.

Ndumiso Mabena earned a PSL yellow card in the 54th minute after the Bloemfontein Celtic captain’s trailing arm caught Lorenzo Gordinho in the face.

Bidvest Wits’ Phathutshedzo Nange came close in th 67th minute with a well struck snapshot however his powerful effort was aimed straight at Bloemfontein Celtic goalkeeper Chaine.

Nange again went close in the 74th minute, this time with an acrobatic overhead kick however his effort went just wide of the Celtic goal this time.

Both teams pushed for a late winner however it wasn’t to be. 1-1 it ended at the University of Pretoria stadium. The point means Wits remain in 4th position while Phunya Sele Sele climb into the top eight courtesy of goal difference.
