Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena led the Brazilians to a sixth successive league title earlier this season, but there is no doubt that in the coming years he will have ambitions of leading the club to great success in Africa in addition to their local hegemony.

According to SABC Sport, Mokwane has been offered a four-year contract ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, with Masandawana clearly seeing value in his continued role as the sole head coach.

“I love this club,” Mokwena recently commented. “I am falling in love with it every single day [and] I get incredible support from the club, the chairman, the Motsepe family and the board. And there’s a very good relationship with the players. What more can a coach ask for?”

For quite some time, it has been reported that Manqoba Mngqithi is in the final few months of his contract with Sundowns, and that a club like Chiefs could possibly pounce to try and snap up his services.

The speculation arose after a coaching shake-up earlier this season at Sundowns, which led to speculation that Mngqithi may look for a new challenge after speculation suggested he had effectively been ‘demoted’.

Yet, the agent of the popular coach has told SABC Sport that he will not be leaving Sundowns at the end of the 2022-23 season.

“I’ve said this before, Manqoba is contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns until 30 June 2024, so he has another season at the club,” said Mike Makaab.

“He is happy at Sundowns, and unless there is a change of heart. As it stands, Manqoba will be with Mamelodi Sundowns in the new season.”
