After breaking his leg in a gut-wrenching tackle by Mamelodi Sundowns’ Bongani Zungu in the Carling Knockout, Bernard Parker has had a successful operation and shrugged off any fears that he could be forced into retirement.

“Realistically, according to the doctors view, and also the sports science view that it’s up to myself, how quick I can get back but they predicted that I will back February, maybe late as March,” he stated, as quoted by iDiski Times.

“But it’ll all depends on me how seriously I am taking my recovery, which I am. And I hope to be to be back around the time, or maybe sooner.

“I would like to take my time so that I can get back stronger and better as a player and also help the team finish off the season in a respectable position.”

THE FUTURE IS PROMISING FOR PARKER

The former Chiefs star thanked his support system for all their help in aiding his recovery.

“The recovery has been great. I would say for the last four weeks it has been great. The first two weeks was very, very tough, mentally, I would say, and emotionally,” he said on Thursday.

“But after that, it’s been very, very fruitful. And I’m happy that the doctors are glad, and giving me the thumbs up in terms of my my progress I’m doing.

“And I’ve been just enjoying the recovery process, taking it day by day. The most difficult part is when you’re going through the suffering, which I would say the pain. Also the mental part as well, where you got a whole lot of things going through your mind regarding to what might happen in the future, as well.

“But then, the positive support that I got from my family, from people in football, and also from people from church as well and the matter the amount of love that I got from the people actually boosted and lifted my spirits.

“And and it has definitely played a big part in my recovery.”
