AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy says his side must do everything in their power in their last two matches to ensure that history is made for the club by qualifying for the CAF Champions League.

It would be a first for Usuthu, who have qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup previously, but have never made it to the Africa’s elite continental tournament.

Benni McCarthy’s side come up against Swallows at home on Wednesday, 2 June (17:00) before ending the season away at Maritzburg United on Saturday, 5 June (15:00).

They are coming off the back of successive losses against Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates.

While they are still in second place, a defeat or even draw will put themselves in a precarious position and McCarthy said it would be such a waste to sabotage everything they’ve worked so hard for.

“It’s extremely important that we secure a second place, but I think it’s all your season’s hard work that goes into it. You don’t want to relax and take your foot off the gas pedal right towards the end because it just destroys everything you’ve worked hard for and everything you’ve achieved so far. For us, we’ve got everything to play for. First time in the history of the club that we will be able to get a chance to play in the CAF Champions League,” said McCarthy on the official AmaZulu website.

In the first round match in February at the Dobsonville Stadium, Swallows and AmaZulu drew 0-0.
