It’s not all doom and gloom for Kaizer Chiefs fans despite another dull performance in their most recent match. Here’s why.

NATURENA: Three teenage Kaizer Chiefs talents to make breakthroughs soon

Cavin Johnson was left baffled by Chiefs’ toothless display after a six-week hiatus in the domestic league programme. A disjointed performance was a concern for the boss who had all of his players available for the mini pre-season.

“It’s six-week pre-season and we all had it. Normally, this type of performance you will expect at the beginning of the season, and it’s halfway through the season and it is the same type of performance,” reflected Johnson.

“But we will take the one point, it is away from home, and we will go for the next game.”

In 17 league matches this term, Chiefs have scored 16 goals. You don’t need a maths degree to deduce that a side scoring less than a goal per game has serious issues. This is not a new problem though. In 2022-23, the Glamour Boys notched up just 32 league goals in 30 matches. It’s a miserly average for a team of this stature.

Exciting talents coming through

Mfundo Vilakazi, who we will discuss in more detail shortly, is a player who excites all Amakhosi fans. There are also several teenage stars on the verge of breakthroughs, namely Tumelo Shai and Takalani Mazhamba. They may not make a big impact right now, but patience is a virtue.

Amakhosi could only manage a 0-0 draw with Royal AM at the weekend, meaning the Glamour Boys are still winless in away league games against MaMkhize’s side. Mfundo Vilakazi, affectionately known as Obridago, was named on the bench and was spotted donning the number 28 on his shorts. Plenty is expected of him. He could even start the Nedbank Cup clash with Milford this weekend as rotation is expected from coach Johnson.
