SuperSport United and Bafana Bafana left-back Lyle Lakay says he has made peace with how he left Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 32-year-old Cape Town-born utility player spent five years with Masandawana before he was signed with Matsatsantsa.

Lakay enjoyed game time under Pitso Mosimane but since “Jingles” left Chloorkop, the Bafana player struggled for game time.

He was eventually sent on loan to Cape Town City for the 2022/23 season.

After his loan stint, Lakay captained Bafana in the Cosafa Cup before leaving Sundowns before the start of the current season.

Since joining SuperSport, Lakay has scored four goals in 27 appearances in all competitions this season.

“It didn’t end the way I wanted it to end, but that’s life; it happens everywhere. I’ve made peace with it, I’ve moved on, and I’m at SuperSport now,” he was quoted on SABC Sport.

“We’re passed the halfway mark of the season, and I believe, if I didn’t make peace with it, I wouldn’t have been in the situation I am in now, in terms of the performances, goals and assists, and all that.”

Lakay started his professional career with Matsatsantsa under Hunt 15 years ago but failed to cement his place. He was eventually loaned out to CPT City before moving to Bloemfontein Celtic.

After a decade, he has returned to SuperSport with experience having played for Sundowns and Bafana Bafana.

“I’m enjoying it. I think the last few weeks or month, if I look at my performance – and not that I want to speak about myself [highly], but I think it was four or five games in a row that I contributed,” Lakay added.

“I think it was two or three goals and two assists, so it’s so far so good.

“I’m well on track to achieving my target for the season, which is double figures in goals and assists.

“I think I’m on eight or nine now, and there’s about eight games left, including the Nedbank Cup, so hopefully I can achieve that.”
