Are Sundowns planning to ‘steal’ Mayo from Chiefs?

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly interested in signing Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo and money is not a problem.

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly interested in Cape Town City high-profile forward Khanyisa Mayo.

Mayo has been linked to several teams in recent times including Kaizer Chiefs however it appears as if Downs also in the hunt.

The 25-year-old does not come cheap though and if Sundowns know that they will have to pay a hefty price for the Bafana Bafana player.

Mayo one of the best players in the DStv Premiership and many have tipped him to move abroad to further his career.

Sundowns looking to hijack Mayo from Chiefs


The left-footed striker has scored six goals already this season and is so far among the leading goal-scorers in the league.

According to Soccer Laduma, Cape Town City chairman John Comitis is willing to sell Mayo for $2 million(R37 million) should the striker score 15 goals this season.

“If Mayo scores 15 goals this season, I said ‘Everybody this is his price tag’ and I don’t think i’m wrong. He’s on six and I think he’s just going to keep on scoring goals,” said Comitis.

“Check the dollar rate, it was two million. There’s only one price tag for mayo and to be honest even that number now, with what’s happening woth African League Football, you know they are throwing money around like nothing, so let it come our way.”

Sundowns could be forced to buy Mayo this January following their current striker crises. Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro have struggled with injuries this season and perhaps Mayo could be the guy they go for in January.
