Orlando Pirates have seen quite a few of their players being linked with move to Europe of late.

Pirates may have to make do without some key players next season, while making a healthy profit.

They have seen Relebohile Mofokeng, Evidence Makgopa, as well as young striker Mohau Nkota linked with moves abroad. Mofokeng was linked to numerous teams in both England and Spain, recently having trials at Wolves. He and Pirates are yet to find out if the English Premier League outfit will be signing him. Makgopa is believed to have attracted in a number of European countries. Clubs in France, Belgium and Russia are thought to be monitoring him. Young Nkota is yet to make his senior debut, but has attracted interest from Belgian giants Standard Liege

According to Soccer-Laduma, Belgium seems to be the flavour of the moment at Pirates as Patrick Maswanganyi now also linked.

Belgian interest in Pirates star Maswanganyi

“I think it’s not the first time they have shown interest. They have been following his (Maswanganyi) progress since last season when he was at SuperSport United, but they were not sure because he had just come back from Europe as well. But since he joined Pirates, this club is Belgium had been talking to his representatives who sent him to Portugal before and now it’s looking promising. “I know there are other teams in other countries looking at him, and the Belgium team representative was (present) at the FNB Stadium during the Soweto Derby and they are happy with what they saw.” Said the source.

The source goes on further to say Maswanganyi’s previous experience in Europe could stand him in good stead.

“I think the team in Belgium that is interested in him have also looked at his experience in Europe and looking at his age. He is only 25 years old and spent about two to three years in Portugal. They feel that will help him settle well if he moves to Belgium. I can’t say the club in Belgium at the moment because it would jeopardize everything and that wouldn’t be good,” concluded the source.

It now remains to be seen if Pirates would be willing to let Maswanganyi leave after just one season.
