According to various local sources such as iDiski Times and TimesLIVE, Amakhosi have taken significant steps to appoint the 47-year-old Santos.

“Outgoing Petro de Luanda head coach Alexandre Santos has emerged as a frontrunner for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs job, but Amakhosi will have to beat tough competition in Wydad AC and Simba SC,” iDiski Times reported.

“Despite facing competition, this publication has it from impeccable sources that Chiefs are intensifying their efforts to secure Santos, as first reported in this week’s iDiski Times newspaper,” the report added.

“Kaizer Chiefs have contacted Alexandre Santos with the view to bringing the Portuguese mentor as their new coach, the Sunday Times has learnt,” the publiction reported on Sunday.

AMAKHOSI SHOULD SIGN THESE BAFANA BAFANA STARS

Meanwhile, former Glamour Boy, Thabang Rooi, has said the club should target Percy Tau and Lyle Foster. Tau is yet to sign a new deal with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, while Foster is facing an uncertain future after Burnley were relegated from the English Premier League.

“It would really be good for the team to have players like Percy Tau or even Lyle Foster to come back to South Africa and join Kaizer Chiefs,” Rooi told Soccer Laduma.

“That’s how the team can improve on their performance and results in the future. But the biggest question is affordability. We all know that Mamelodi Sundowns can afford to bring top-quality players from Europe back home to South Africa and still afford them.

“So even in as much as Chiefs would want to do that they look at the affordability first and that’s why they would rather develop their own players,” Rooi added.

“They have to know how to negotiate to get those big-name players to Chiefs just like the way Sundowns does. But as I have said, it would be great to sign such players in the future when their time to come back home is right,” the former Kaizer Chiefs defender concluded.
