Brandon Truter has described his appointment as AmaZulu’s new interim head coach as a ‘dream come true’, but is under no illusions.

Brandon Truter has described his appointment as AmaZulu’s interim head coach as a ‘dream come true’.

Truter takes over the reins from Benni McCarthy who was sensationally sacked last Friday.

Usuthu are currently in ninth position on the DStv Premiership standings and, as reported by The South African website, Truter has seven games in which to secure the club a top-eight finish after which a decision on a permanent head coach will be made at the end of April.

Under McCarthy, AmaZulu finished second in last season’s DStv Premiership, thus securing themselves a spot in this season’s CAF Champions League.

Truter certainly has big shoes to fill, but is delighted with the opportunity although he is not under any illusions as to the high expectations demanded by the club hierarchy.

“Being part of the AmaZulu brand is just a dream come true,” Brandon Truter told the club’s media team.
“I’m happy to be here, I’m over the moon and grateful for the opportunity given to me by the president and the board to coach at AmaZulu.
“Having monitored the club during their darker days, if I can put it that way, but I’m happy with what they achieved last season, which showed the club was a sleeping giant and proved to South Africa that they can compete with the best.
“The structure and the brand that is here already is very good.
“The technical team and the club has been successful with the players who are here as well. Results for this year haven’t been forthcoming and that’s the only thing I’m looking to change at the moment.
“I’m coming in with seven games left so I’m not stupid in regards to disrespecting the technical team and the people who are around here.
“We have to look at it and see how we can turn it around because we have a very ambitious president and very ambitious and hungry-for-success supporters. To end the season on a high note for them, we have to turn it around.
“Football is a game of pressure and I would like to strive under that pressure. So, pressure is welcome but we need to be mindful of where it is coming from as well. It will always be there in football, especially in the DStv Premiership.”
