Pirates are reported to have earmarked Johnson as a possible replacement for Josef Zinnbauer who resigned two games into the current season.

However, speaking for the first about the reports, Johnson refused to discuss his future plans, and revealed that he knew nothing about him possibly joining Pirates.

“I can’t talk about my future in football at the moment,” Johnson told KickOff.

“I don’t know anything about those rumours,” he said.

Pirates were, at first, linked with Steve Komphela who is contracted to Mamelodi Sundowns as their senior coach.

However, they couldn’t get the Kroonstad-born mentor after it emerged that for him and Sundowns to part ways, an amount in the region of R28 million would have to be paid.

Pirates seemingly abandoned their pursuit on Komphela, and allowed Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids to lead the team while searching for a new coach.
