Kaizer Chiefs are hard at work trying to revamping their attacking department ahead of next season.

Chiefs struggled in front of goals for a third season in a row, despite adding two strikers last season.

Three players had an opportunity to play through the middle for Chiefs last season. Ashley du Preez, Ranga Chivaviro and Jasond Gonzalez. The trio only scored a measly 10 goals between them all season in the Amakhosi colours. Du Preez scoring six while Chivaviro had four to his name. Colombian native Gonzalez has left South African shores without troubling the scorers.

The trio did not get much support from the wide channels either. Pule Mmodi and Christian Saile played the most amount of games on the left and right wings respectively. Mmodi was able to score four goals with four assists, while Saile contributed just four goals and three assists.

Now to fix their striking department, Chiefs have earmarked Iqraam Rayners, Andy Boyeli and Lebo Mothiba. While on the wider channels, Bafana Bafana international, Oswin Appollis, Elias Mokwana, Luther Singh and Percy Tau. It was believed that Al Ahly were willing to sell Tau for a good price, instead of offer him a new deal, ahead of the next season.

This gave Chiefs hope that they could bring Tau home. What added further fuel to the fire was the situation between him and coach Marcel Koller. The Swiss coach was believed to be the winger’s biggest fan at the club, advocating for a new deal. This was before a reporting falling out.  This publication recently reported that the Al Ahly board had decided they now want to sign the ex-Brighton & Hove forward to a new deal.

Now according to Soccer-Laduma the coach himself now wants Tau to stay.

Tau set to stay at Al Ahly?

“According to Al Watan Sports, Ahly’s Swiss manager has urged the club to sign the Bafana Bafana international to a new deal. The 63-year-old’s critical request is believed to have come after a meeting he had with club sporting director Khaled Bebo.” Wrote the publication.

That is another sign that it is more likely Tau stays at Al Ahly than he joins Chiefs.
