PSL club turns its back on Bafana on eve of Afcon semi-final
Chippa United chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has shockingly stated that he and the club will be supporting Nigeria over Bafana Bafana at Afcon.

Bafana Bafana have impressively progressed to the Afcon semi-finals, and will now face off against the Super Eagles on Wednesday 7 February 2024 at 19:00 (SA time).

Although the entire country has gradually got behind Bafana Bafana as they have overcome each hurdle, local PSL club Chippa United have bizarrely decided to release a statement explaining why they won’t support the side.
In short, chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi said the club will rather support their Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali – and the Super Eagles as a whole – rather than get behind Bafana Bafana.
“With Stanley’s rising profile and international attention it brings to Chippa United FC, the benefits have been nothing but positive,” he said in a shock statement. “Therefore, I and Chippa United FC stand behind our player Stanley Nwabali and the Nigerian Super Eagles tomorrow [Wednesday] against South Africa Bafana Bafana. We wish the Super Eagles all the best.”
