Mosimane, McCarthy, Davids and 10 South African coaches abroad

Former Orlando Pirates coach Mahier Davids has become the latest South African-born mentor to get a job outside of the country.

Former Orlando Pirates coach Mahier Davids has become the latest South African-born mentor to get a job outside of the country.

Davids, who is Fadlu’s younger brother, has just joined Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahli Saudi in Saudi Arabia as one of his assistants.

Davids moves abroad just a few weeks after his brother Fadlu returned from Russia following a very brief spell with Lokomotiv Moscow.

However, there is a still a number of South African-born coaches who are employed abroad, and continue to fly the country’s flag.

Among others are Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy, Bradley Carnell, Roger de Sa, Steven Pienaar and Masilo Modubi who are all former Bafana Bafana players.

There is also Quinton Fortune who was a high-profile player for Manchester United and Bafana Bafana, and also worked for the Old Trafford giants and Reading FC.

Fortune is currently not attached to any team but it could be a matter of time before he gets a team as he holds a UEFA Pro Licence.
