Silverware expectations are the norm at Orlando Pirates. With the Nedbank Cup pursuit now completely diminished, coach Davids has set his sights on CAF Confederation Cup glory.

ORLANDO PIRATES COACH FADLU DAVIDS SHARES THIS SEASON’S LAST DREAM

As The South African reported on Wednesday night, the Buccaneers were sent crashing out of the Nedbank Cup after losing 5-4 on penalties to Gallants in the last 16.

According to Davids, Orlando Pirates’ aspiration to lift a trophy this season is still alive. The club will fight for the CAFCC title.

“I think we had ourselves to blame, besides the penalty they had, one turnover in the last minute where they had a chance to score, they never really troubled our goalkeeper,” Davids told SuperSport TV.

“We have to lift the boys now, out of the Nedbank, our full focus now on CAF coming up on Sunday.

“We have to manage the group now, number one in terms of the availability but also lift the heads, losing the derby and now out of the Nedbank Cup, we have to lift our heads up, put our chests out and go for the CAF competition, that’s what we have to focus on, on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates will host Eswatini’s Royal Leopards after beating them in 6-2 in the reverse fixture a fortnight ago.

Victory will be a big step towards finishing at the top of the group to qualify for the quarter-finals.

HOW BUCS CAN MAKE THE QUARTER FINALS

The Buccaneers are currently placed second with a single point deficit behind leaders Al-lttihad and with three more games to go.

The top two teams will progress to the quarter-finals.

Remaining fixtures:

  • Leopards (home).
  • JS Soura (away)
  • Al-lttihad (home).
