Orlando Pirates fan favourite keeper Sipho Chaine is said to be ruled out until 2024 after sustaining a lengthy injury.

The word doing the rounds in Mzansi is that Orlando Pirates will be without keeper Sipho Chaine until 2024 after suffering a lengthy injury.

Chaine’s absence owing to a knee injury, means a golden opportunity for keeper Melusi Butehelezi who has impressed since joining from TS Galaxy.

The former Jomo Cosmos net minder, Buthelezi has impressed the technical team led by coach Jose Riveiro and this means Chaine will struggle to return to his place.

According to Phakaaathi, Chaine might not be back in action until next year following his knee injury, which will make things difficult for him being the first-choice keeper.

PIRATES FAVOURITE KEEPER RULED OUT UNTIL 2024

The ex-Chippa United keeper, Chaine was Pirates number one before his injury setback, but Buthelezi has taken over from Ghana international Richard Ofori.

According to a source close to the football publication, Chaine’s injury seems to be serious and that has now made him sit at the back of the Bucs goalkeeping rotation queue.

“Sipho’s injury seems to be more serious than what everybody thought. We all thought it is a minor thing and he would be back after that Cape Town Spurs game,” reveals a source.

“But now he will have to start over to get back into the team because his injury is going to take at least three months, and I only see him coming back next year. I feel sorry for him because he was a regular in the team and everyone trusted him.”

Moreover, the MTN8 final hero, Chaine will now go down the pecking order to become the fourth-choice shot-stopper at the club.

Chaine will be behind Buthelezi, Ofori, and Siyabonga Mpontshane who is also eager for game time at Mayfair.

CHAINE TO START FROM SCRATCH AT PIRATES

The informant continues to state that the 26-year-old keeper will now start from scratch to fight for his place in the Pirates’ goalkeeping department.

“Now he has to start from scratch. Buthelezi has taken over now and he has been doing really well for the club,” adds the insider.

“I remember well, the same thing happened with Ofori. He got injured, Sipho came in and took over.

“But what I like is that these guys have healthy competition and the coach likes that about them.”
