Two former Orlando Pirates midfielders have been appointed as South Africa U15 national team coaches effective immediately.

Godfrey Sapula has been appointed as the new head coach, and Thabo Mngomeni will be one of the three assistants.

The other two assistants are Smuts Ndlovu and Lazarus Kgosana who are known for unearthing raw talent and turning youngsters into superstars.

This new technical team has already hit the ground running by selecting 52 players in the their preliminary SA U15 squad.

Sapula and his technical will trim that squad and eventually pick 23 players that will represent South Africa in a Six Nations International Tournament in December 2023.

EX-ORLANDO PIRATES DUO REUNITED AT NATIONAL TEAM LEVEL

The appointment of both Sapula and Mngomeni is somehow a reunion as the two former stars played together at Orlando Pirates.

Mngomeni spent four years at Pirates between 1998 and 2002 while Sapula arrived at Mayfair in 2000 and left for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2002.

This means the pair played together at Pirates for two years before taking different directions but their combination and contribution remains unmatched.
