Nabi & Pitso on the market, but who will land at Chiefs?

Two highly-regarded coaches, Pitso Mosimane and Nasreddine Nabi, are effectively ‘free agents’. Will either end up at Chiefs?

Earlier this week it was reported by SABC Sport that Nasreddine Nabi was not the only coach that Chiefs were considering as a replacement in the head coach role for Arthur Zwane.

It’s said that there are still several options on the table, including wanting any new coach to still work with Zwane in some capacity, but ultimately any new coach is likely to want to employ their own coaching staff.

According to the SABC Sport report, a few coaches have expressed interest in possibly working at Chiefs, and suddenly Nabi and ever-popular Pitso Mosimane are on the market for new jobs.

Mosimane apparently “sent a letter to Al Ahli two weeks ago, informing them of the intention to terminate the contract”, but it’s still hard to imagine that his ‘next project’ will be at Naturena.

Interestingly, Mosimane has suggested he could be open to the option of coaching Chiefs, although last month he said that he’d heard nothing as yet.

“I’ll ask my agent but he has never told me anything about Kaizer Chiefs,” Mosimane told Power FM.

“But anything is possible, I like projects so if someone gives me a project and has a vision. I also have my say on how things can go from step one, two and three.”

Nabi to join Chiefs instead?

Chiefs opened talks with Nabi recently, and now Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC have announced that the successful coach “asked to leave so that he could have a new challenge”. Like Mosimane, he is believed to have other enticing offers that he could consider, and so it will be interesting to see whether he chooses the Glamour Boys.

“The leadership of Young Africans Sports Club would like to inform the public that it has reached an agreement to part ways with its coach Nasreddine Nabi after the coach asked not to extend a new contract,” read the official statement.

“Coach Nasreddine Nabi’s contract with Young Africans Sports Club has ended at the end of this season. After the end of the contract, the leader of Young Africans Sports Club met with Coach Nabi for negotiations to sign a new contract. But Nabi asked to leave so that he could have a new challenge.

“As the Head Coach of Young Africans Sports Club, Nabi has managed to win two NBC Premier League titles, two Azam Confederation Cup titles, two Community Shield titles and lead our team to the final stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.

“The leadership of Young Africans Sports Club thanks Coach Nabi for his contribution throughout the period he worked for our team and wishes him all the best in his journey.”
