Swallows boss Komphela defends misbehaving Zuma

Moroka Swallows coach Steve Komphela defends his misbehaving striker Dumisani Zuma who is reportedly ill-disciplined.

Moroka Swallows striker Dumisani Zuma is reportedly misbehaving once again but his coach Steve Komphela defends him, saying players misbehaving is nothing new.

This comes as the former AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs striker, Zuma came to training smelling alcohol.

According to a football publication, Impempe, Zuma, who’s had numerous disciplinary issues in the past, arrived at Swallows training intoxicated. 

SWALLOWS BOSS KOMPHELA DEFENDS MISBEHAVING ZUMA

The eloquent coach, Komphela says he doesn’t want to be controversial but ill-discipline happens everywhere in life.

Nicknamed Msholozi, Zuma played 81 minutes in Swallows’ 2-0 defeat against Orlando Pirates in the league at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.

“These [players’ wayward off-field behaviours] are things that you deal with everywhere. I am sure, I don’t want to be controversial, even among us here [in the press conference room], from your own media houses and everywhere else, even at our own homes, such things exist,” Komphela responded per Sowetan.

“It’d be highly hypocritical of me, coming from a society that has the same aspects, when you experience the same phenomenon within your small intimate environment, then you are in denial that this can’t happen here.

“We are just a microscopic reflection of society.”

Following reports of ill-discipline, Usuthu opted to part ways with Zuma in June.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic star, Zuma has struggled to hit the ground running since joining the Dube Birds with many blaming his off-field antics for his deteriorating form.

Moreover, the 28-year-old Pietermaritzburg-born attacker has played nine games without scoring or assisting this season.

The South African also previously reported that Zuma was released by Chiefs in June last year as Amakhosi stated that disciplinary issues as the main reason for releasing him.

“Attacking midfielder Dumisani Zuma’s numerous disciplinary issues have led to the club letting him go with a year still remaining on his contract,” announced Chiefs at the time.

“Since joining from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2017, he has been suspended a number of times, including twice in one season. He was also sent to rehab and counselling in the season that just ended.”
