Moroccan star Hakim Ziyech is a major doubt for his side’s epic clash against Bafana Bafana on Tuesday night.

South Africa and Morocco square off in the 2023 Afcon round of 16 at the Stade de San Pédro.

Galatasaray midfielder Ziyech, who already has an assist and a goal in the tournament, is struggling with an ankle injury.

The star winger was forced off Injured in his side’s 1-0 victory over Zambia and is yet to resume full training ahead of his side’s clash against Bafana.

“Starman Hakim Ziyech is in doubt to start the highly anticipated match, as he did not take part in any training session for two successive days, Friday and Saturday.” KingFut reported.

“Ziyech suffered an ankle sprain after scoring Morocco’s winner over Zambia and manager Walid Regragui fears the player’s participation in training sessions not to worsen his injury.”

“We know if we succeed (against Morocco) it will be a big step to what we all want. That is to play in the final and win it.” – Bafana coach Hugo Broos said as quoted by Citizen.

“Morocco were at the World Cup (they made the semifinals of Qatar 2022) but I think they (still) want to win the AFCON, maybe for the last time this will be a chance (for these players) to achieve the highest level.

They were not really very good in the group stages (Morocco drew with the DR Congo but also beat Tanzania and Zambia), but this is still a good team, and it will be a tough battle (on Tuesday).

“But this is a football match and what has happened here at the AFCON has been amazing, so let’s make another surprise. That Bafana can beat them, that is the most important thing we learned.”
