Sundowns’ AFL future in jeopardy? PSL calls urgent meeting!

The PSL has reportedly called an urgent meeting with all its 32-member clubs, and Mamelodi Sundowns could be top of the agenda.

The PSL has reportedly called an urgent meeting with all its 32-member clubs, and Mamelodi Sundowns could be top of the agenda.

According to SABC Sport, the league’s Board of governors will sit on Friday to possibly discuss Sundowns’ participation in the African Football League (AFL).

Sundowns had already embarked on a mission to try and convince the PSL to postpone some of their league fixtures for the month of October.

However, the league is reluctant to do so as Sundowns are yet to receive any formal correspondence.

SUNDOWNS’ AFL PARTICIPATION IN JEOPARDY?

Sundowns’ AFL participation could indeed be in jeopardy, and should the Board of governors decide otherwise, they will have to withdraw.

According to the public broadcaster, should Sundowns decide to use two different squads as part of improvisation, the PSL is concerned that could weaken the league.

Among other concerns is the late communication on the commencement of the AFL, and the manner in which CAF communicated.

In addition, the league’s board of governors are worried about the congested fixture schedule should Sundowns be granted permission to have their games postponed.

CARLING BLACK LABEL KNOCKOUT CUP THROWS SPANNER IN THE WORKS

To make matters worse, the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup kicks off on the same weekend as the AFL – 21 October.

Sundowns are already scheduled to take on TS Galaxy, though the dates, kick-off times and venues are yet to be released by the league.
