Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to replace Cavin Johnson with former senior team coach Arthur Zwane.

According to a report by Soccer Laduma, Zwane is set to assume the role of Head of Academy at Amakhosi ahead of next season.

This follows the club’s decision to part ways with Johnson who had not really been able to execute his duties at Chiefs.

Johnson was hired in September 2023 as Head of Academy only to be asked to step in as interim coach a month later.

And this was on the back of Chiefs firing Molefi Ntseki as head coach following a series of poor results.

Now, that position – Head of Academy – could be filled by Zwane who is well-experienced when it comes to working with youth.

When Chiefs demoted Zwane in October 2023, they only confirmed his return to the development without specifying his actual role.

Prior to that, Zwane had served Chiefs as an assistant coach to three different coaches, a caretaker coach and a head coach.

He worked under Gavin Hunt and Stuart Baxter, and became a stand-alone coach for a season before serving an assistant to Ntseki.

KAIZER CHIEFS TO REWARD ZWANE FOR HIS LOYALTY

“Having served in a number of vocations at the club like the DStv Diski Challenge Head coach, First team assistant coach and the first team head coach, Arthur Zwane is the man touted to take over Johnson’s role,” reads part of the report.

ZWANE EQUIPPING HIMSELF OUTSIDE THE LIMELIGHT

Zwane, 50, has been using his time outside of the limelight to equip himself with coaching knowledge.

The Amakhosi legend is currently doing his UEFA B Coaching License with the Irish Football Association (IFA).

With that qualification coupled with the fact that he understands the Chiefs way of doing things, it is almost certain that Zwane will do well in his reported new role.

His background with Chiefs youth structures is associated with the rise of the like of Siyabonga Ngezana and Njabulo Boom who are both playing abroad.

Players such as Samkelo Zwane, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Happy Mashiane, and many others within the Chiefs squad were all nurtured by Zwane.

ZWANE A TRUE KAIZER CHIEFS LEGEND

Zwane is undoubtedly a true definition of a legend to Kaizer Chiefs whom he served for 22 years both as a player and coach.

He retired in 2011 following the arrival of Vladimir Vermezovic who turned him into a coach, and since then, Zwane never looked back.
