Odegaard, now 24 years old, was a teenage prodigy when he arrived at Real Madrid aged 16. His first-team opportunies in the Spanish capital were limited, understandably, so he had to move elsewhere for minutes. Before a successful loan spell with Real Sociedad, he ventured to Vitesse Arnhem in the Dutch Eredivisie. It was there where he met Bafana Bafana midfield maestro Thulani Serero. “Cream” played a deeper role after starting his career as a classic number 10, and Odegaard was the number 8 just ahead of him.
