Kaizer Chiefs have officially released a statement on axing defender Austin Dube who has returned to Richards Bay FC.

After parting ways with defender Austin Dube, Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has officially explained the axing of the 30-year-old at Naturena.

Motaung Jr. said the club is saddened to see the central defender leaving Chiefs as he just joined his former side, Richards Bay FC.

Chiefs announced the defender, Dube’s departure or axing from Naturena following massive speculation on his immediate future.

As also announced by The South African, Dube was set to be axed by the Soweto giants after struggling to find a regular spot in the starting eleven.

CHIEFS EXPLAIN DUBE’S AXING AT NATURENA

As the club continues to ring changes in the playing personnel, Motaung Jr. said they engaged with the dreadlocked stopper, Dube as he asked to terminate his contract.

Dube officially parted ways with Chiefs as he was left with a year on his contract on Thursday morning.

“We are sad to see Austin leaving us, but we felt that it was in the best interests of the Club, as well as Austin himself, in terms of the furtherance of his career that we allow him the freedom to pursue other options and opportunities,” Motaung Jr. said.

“Austin has been a model professional during his time with us and we thank him for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs. We all wish him everything of the best.”

Looking at his numbers, the new Natal Rich Boyz defender featured in 18 appearances in his debut season but failed to impress under coach Arthur Zwane.

In addition, the arrival of Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe from TS Galaxy and SuperSport United meant his chances would be slim under new manager Molefi Ntseki next season.

CHIEFS DEFENDER RETURNS TO FORMER CLUB ON TWO-YEAR DEAL

The South African reported that Dube, dubbed a flop has returned to his former club on a two-year deal to revive his ailing career ahead of the 2023/24 new season.

The South African website has confirmed that Dube has rejoined Richards Bay following his departure from Chiefs.

As reported by this publication’s football team, Chiefs and Dube officially parted ways on Thursday morning.

Dube had not been training with Chiefs since their return for pre-season after being told to stop doing so while negotiations for his settlement were ongoing.
