Former Orlando Pirates fan favourite Thabo Rakhale finds a new topflight club! 

Former Orlando Pirates star Thabo Rakhale has finally found himself a new team, after a long spell in the wilderness in South African football.

Former Orlando Pirates star Thabo Rakhale has finally found himself a new team, after a long spell in the wilderness in South African football.

Rakhale is now set to return to topflight football, although in Botswana this time as he has been confirmed as a new Township Rollers player.

Last month Rakhale detailed how difficult he had found being clubless for an extended period of time, having completed a year without football. The last club the 33-year-old had played for before completing his move to Rollers was Sekhukhune United. Following his release the tricky winger claimed that many clubs had shied away from signing him as they were under the impression he would be too expensive, due to his history at Pirates.

It had to take a team from beyond the borders of South Africa to take a leap of faith in Rakhale, that coming in the shape of Botswana giants Rollers. The side released a statement confirming the capture of the former Chippa United man.

Rakhale joins Rollers

“Township Rollers is pleased to announce the signing of South African winger Thabo Rakhale, Join us in welcoming the skillful former Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, and Sekhukhune United star to the Blues.” Read the official statement from the club.

This move represents a change of heart from Rakhale was recently reported to have initially turned down the opportunity to play for Rollers. But he may have got advice from some people close to him, whether in the game or outside the game and realised that he may not get another similar opportunity anywhere else.

Botswana is also the home of Rakhele’s former teammates at Pirates in Sifiso Myeni and Rooi Mahamutsa, who could play against each other, after the duo secured promotion with VTM Football. That factor may have also influenced ‘Jomo’’s decision to go to the country.
