Forgiving Mokwena hails Sirino’s remorseful attitude

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Gaston Sirino is praised by his forgiving coach Rulani Mokwena for his remorseful attitude.

Midfielder Gaston Sirino was rumoured to be on his way out of Mamelodi Sundowns but his forgiving coach Rulani Mokwena is now praising the talented star’s remorseful attitude.

Sirino, as The South African also reported, was heavily linked with a move from Sundowns during the previous transfer window.

Mokwena also confirmed that Sirino tabled a transfer request away from Chloorkop as he was linked with a reunion with ex-coach Pitso Mosimane.

At the same time, he was reportedly linked with a switch to PSL rivals such as Kaizer Chiefs but he decided to stay put at Chloorkop.

Just last week, Sundowns faced TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup and Sirino was included in the match-day squad.

The talented and nippy Uruguayan midfielder, Sirino came from the bench to score an equaliser before losing on penalties.

Mokwena later set the record straight and said Sirino apologised to the club and was keen to stay and fight for his place.

“Gaston’s story is an incredible story for all of us. We all make mistakes but lucky is when you accept when you have made mistakes and you’re remorseful, and accept your wrongs,” said Mokwena per FARPost

“People forgive and when we forgive genuinely without holding any grudges we move on because is for the betterment of the club. 

“You know, we all want to see the club win and succeed. So, he [Gaston] has been amazing and I got to give him applause for that.” 

SUNDOWNS MENTOR PRAISES HIS TROOPS FOR ACCEPTING SIRINO

The 36-year-old mentor also lavished his players with praise as they welcomed the dribbling wizard back into the group.

Following the goal against Galaxy, the 32-year-old featured in the African Super League matches against Petro Luanda as they reached the semi-finals.

Sirino started the match away in Luanda on Saturday in the first leg before starting again on Tuesday night at Loftus Versfeld in a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Masandawana are set to welcome Egyptian giants Al Ahly in a mouthwatering semi-final affair on Sunday.
