Ex-Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom explains why the MLS in the United States of America is a competitive league.

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has rubbished the talk that the MLS is not a competitive league.

Blom left Chiefs last year to join St. Louis FC and he is one of the key players for coach Bradley Carnell in the MLS.

As part of the Bafana Bafana squad that will be on duty against Eswatini on Friday at FNB Stadium and Ivory Coast on Tuesday in Abidjan, Blom said he is looking forward to the two friendlies.

EX-CHIEFS STAR BLOM ON WHY MLS IS COMPETITIVE

Looking at the ex-Chiefs star’s contribution in the MLS, Blom has featured in 25 matches and scored once or St. Louis.

. “There are a lot of people who say the league in the US is not competitive, but you will only see it when you are there,” he said according to TimesLIVE.

“I have been there for a year and it is a competitive league. A lot of players from Europe and South America are coming into the league and that has helped make it better.

“For me, moving to the US is about using it as a stepping stone to better leagues in Europe and also to grow as a person. You can use it as a stepping stone, especially when you are from Africa. It is a good league and a good environment.”

BLOM DELIGHTED TO BE BACK IN THE BAFANA SQUAD FROM THE MLS

The hard-working midfielder, Blom expressed delight after making his return to the national team after missing the previous camp.

He said he is grateful to be part of coach Hugo Broos’ squad that will also participate at the 2023 CAF African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

“It is always good to be back with the national team and I am grateful to be part of it,” he added.

Meanwhile, the matches form part of Bafana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
