Chiefs and Leeds legend on Foster’s struggles in EPL

Reflecting on Lyle Foster’s struggles in the EPL, a Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United legend shares his thoughts on the challenges.

Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe has touched on struggles regarding Burnley striker Lyle Foster in the English Premier League (EPL).

Foster is currently contracted to Burnley in the Premier League and his club recently announced that he was undergoing mental health treatment.

Radebe starred for Chiefs before heading to Leeds, where he earned legendary status, and said the EPL is a challenging league in which to play.

Following Foster’s mental health issues, the former Orlando Pirates striker is also excused from the recent Bafana Bafana squad.

CHIEFS & LEEDS LEGEND ADDRESSES FOSTER’S STRUGGLES IN THE EPL

The man nicknamed “Rhoo”; Radebe said expectations are very high in the EPL, and that is why a young striker such as Foster is struggling at Burnley.

Following Foster’s struggles, the Clarets confirmed last week that the 23-year-old is receiving specialist care while attending to his mental well-being during his time off from club activities.

The Chiefs legend spent more than a decade of success with Leeds after leaving Amakhosi to move to Elland Road in 1994.

“Expectations are very high. You have to adapt to the conditions,” the former Leeds captain said, per Phakaaathi.

“And not just be one of the squad members but being one of the players that make a difference and contribute. It’s quite hard and tough.

“You have to fully take the opportunity to be adopted by people outside your country. For me, it was massive to leave everybody back home and my family to go settle where you never thought you’d make the grade.”

LEEDS LEGEND ON BAFANA STRIKER’S START IN THE EPL

The 1996 Afcon winner with Bafana added that Foster had a bright start in the EPL as he became one of the club’s star performers.

Foster has three goals for Burnley out of seven appearances in the EPL, and Radebe believes it takes much more to settle down in a foreign country.

“He (Foster) started very well by getting goals but in order to make a name for himself, to adapt and settle but it’s very tough,” added Radebe.

“I believe as South Africans we’re resilient. It takes a lot, especially in the first two years to dig in and work hard.

“As long as Lyle knows what he’s there for and what he means to all of us back home.”
