Chelsea new signing INJURED in pre-season

Chelsea’s head coach says Christopher Nkunku suffered discomfort in his knee during the draw with Dortmund.

Chelsea’s big signing Christopher Nkunku picked up a knee injury during a pre-season match.

The 25-year-old could miss the Blues‘ opening match against Liverpool next weekend.

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino is hoping Nkunku has not suffered a serious knee injury after the orward was substituted against Borussia Dortmund.

Nkunku played just over 20 minutes of the 1-1 draw in Chicago before going down clutching his leg following a challenge.

“The doctors are checking him and I hope it is not a big issue,” Pochettino told the club’s official website.

“He fell in the action which was maybe a penalty and he feels something in his knee but we hope it is nothing big.

“We hope he can be back quickly with the team. We need a few days to assess him,” said the Chelsea coach.

Nkunku has looked impressive this pre-season since joining from RB Leipzig this summer.

The striker has scored three times already and is already promising to be a big signing for the Blues.

Chelsea kick-off their 2023/24 Premier League season at home to Liverpool on Sunday 13 August. The Blues finished the 2022/23 season in a disappointing 12th which was their worst run in over two decades. With Pochettino at the helm, the Blues are looking to bounce back and challenge for titles.
