Arteta blames players after Arsenal were held by 10-man Fulham

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta was left frustrated after his side were held 2-2 by Fulham on Saturday at the Emirates.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta was left frustrated after his side drew 2-2 with Fulham at home.

A late goal by João Palhinha saw 10-man Fulham secure a draw against the Gunners at the Emirates.

After the game, Arteta was furious with his players for giving the game away.

“Right from the beginning, we gave an incredible goal away. You make life really difficult for yourself. But the team reacted really well. We dominated the game and created countless chances and should have scored five, six, seven goals easily,” said Arteta as per Express.

“And when you have done the most difficult thing which is to get back ahead against a team that is well organised, you have to defend your box from one corner. It is the only chance they have and you get punished,” Arteta added.

The Spaniard lashed out at some of his players for missing several chances.

“We have to show another level of commitment and desire and [wanting to win] ‘over my dead body’. With 10 men, you cannot concede a goal,” Arteta.

Arsenal similarly lost the league last season. The Gunners were on top for the majority of last season but a lapse of concentration in key games towards the end cost them the Premier League title.
