Cristiano Ronaldo obscene gesture after Al-Nassr victory angers

Following what appeared to be an offensive gesture at the conclusion of Al-Nassr’s 3-2 victory against Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro League on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo was inundated with criticism.

Talisca scored twice in the final four minutes of play to give Al-Nassr the victory after the Portugal attacker opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 21st minute.

Social media footage showed Ronaldo clutching his ear after the final whistle and then repeatedly pumping his palm forward in front of his pelvic area. 

Supporters of Al-Shabab were the alleged target of the gesture.

The crowd responded with ‘Messi’ chants.

Although the event was not captured on camera, several Saudi commentators said Ronaldo ought to face consequences. 

The national football organisation (SAFF) has reportedly launched an investigation into the event; however, there has been no official reaction, according to the Saudi daily Asharq al-Awsat.

“The disciplinary committee is facing the biggest test. We will wait and see,” prominent Saudi writer and television host Waleed Al Farraj said on X. 

“Everything has its limits, no matter how famous you are. This is how the major leagues are.”

Another storm for CR7

Ronaldo, has previously been the target of similar criticism. After a 2-0 league loss to Al-Hilal in April of last year, he seemed to touch his crotch on the way to the dugout in a way that some felt was obscene.

A scarf tossing incident last month also landed him in trouble. Fans threw the scarf at him following a cup loss. He had scooped it up and put it in his shorts. Marked by controversy is his stay in Saudi Arabia.
