The UEFA Champions League knockout stage begins on 18 February 2020, with 16 teams set to battle it out for the title of European victors.

Here is a look at some previous meetings between the sides set to face one another in February.

Juventus vs Lyon

The 2016/2017 Champions League saw these two teams meet for the first time in Europe’s elite competition. Juventus were able to claim a 1-0 away victory in France. The reverse fixture in Turin ended in a 1-1 draw. Expect a tight contest between these two massive clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Red Bull Leipzig

This is RB Leipzig’s first season in the Champions League and their first meeting with Tottenham. The London club will have their hands full, especially with Leipzig striker Timo Werner who is in red-hot form. However, Spurs’ run to the final in 2019 and the appointment of Jose Mourinho will have fans feeling optimistic they can progress in the competition.

Atalanta vs Valencia

These two clubs have only met once previously in a friendly match during 2017, with Atalanta winning 2-1. The Italians will hope for a similar result in their first-ever Champions League last 16 ties, but Valencia has improved their domestic form recently and will be a difficult opponent.

Borussia Dortmund vs Paris Saint-Germain

Dortmund and PSG have only played against each other in the Europa League back in the 2010/2011 season. The two matches both resulted in draws: 1-1 and 0-0 during the group stage. The two sides have achieved great domestic success since then in their respective leagues. PSG manager Thomas Tuchel will be looking to get one back over his former employers at Dortmund.

Real Madrid vs Manchester City

These two giants will meet for the fifth time in the Champions League when they play the first leg of the tie. Madrid has had the edge over City in past encounters in 2011, claiming a 3-2 victory. In the 2016 semi-final, Los Blancos beat City 1-0 over two legs and went on to lift their 11th Champions League. Anticipate a colossal tie between two of the world’s wealthiest clubs.

Napoli vs Barcelona

This will be the first competitive meeting between these two teams who have played four friendlies against each other since 2011. Barcelona has won three of those four matches. This makes them favourites to progress given the poor domestic season Napoli are having. Although, the Italians are capable of an upset as they have shown in recent years.

Atletico Madrid vs Liverpool

The two sides last met during the 2008/2009 group stage. Both group games they played ended 1-1 and Liverpool finished top of the group. Atletico is a very well-organised side under Diego Simeone, especially in defence and his side will prove a stern test for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool.

Chelsea vs Bayern Munich

A repeat of the 2011/2012 final sees these two heavyweights meet for the fourth time in the Champions League. Chelsea has had the edge over Bayern in their previous meetings, eliminating the Bavarians at the quarterfinal stage in 2005.

Heroics from Didier Drogba and Petr Cech saw the blues lift their first-ever Champions League in Bayern’s backyard in 2012. That was the last time they met in a European competition. This fixture is usually full of drama and many will be hoping for more of the same when they clash on 25 February.
