Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is wary of stretching his squad as they will play in another continental tournament.

Sundowns will play in the CAF African Super League, Champions League, Nedbank, and Carling Knockout Cups as well as in the DStv Premiership – Mokwena addresses concerns.

After their MTN8 loss to Orlando Pirates, Mokwena is worried his Sundowns players may not have enough time to recover and train.

MOKWENA WARY OF STRETCHING SUNDOWNS SQUAD

Speaking during the draw of the Carling Cup this week, Mokwena’s Sundowns have also been given a go-ahead by SAFA and the PSL Board of Governors to play in the Super League.

This means Masandawana will fight for five trophies and that means a tight schedule for the reigning league champions, Sundowns.

“The most important thing is that our players need training time. They need to improve in what I call muscle integrity,” Mokwena said per Phakaaathi.

“Because we play a lot of games back to back with very little training time. Some players that don’t get game time breakdown during matches when we give them some form of opportunities.

“I always tell people that overload is probably less dangerous than underload. The focus now is to make sure we improve our team.

“Especially, the conditioning of players around the team that don’t get as much minutes as others because we’re coming to a phase of the season where we will need every single player we have registered.”

Furthermore, Mokwena expresses hopes that he will be able to field his best eleven in all the competitions.

Sundowns will now face Angolan giants, Petro Luanda in a tournament that will see the winner walking away with a staggering $4 million (R76 million) in prize money.

“My hope is that we’re able to always put the best team on the pitch and to make sure all of us are available to assist and support the players during 90 minutes,” Mokwena added.
