Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has laid the blame for his hostile reception by fans of former club Mamelodi Sundowns squarely at the feet of ONE person.

Not for the first time, Mosimane endured a difficult return to Mzansi over the weekend when his Al Ahly side lost 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in their CAF Champions League Group A clash at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

As was the case when the two sides met last season’s in the quarter-final of the same competition, Pitso Mosimane was met with a hostile reception by a number of Mamelodi Sundowns supporters who stopped the Al Ahly team bus en route to the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on that occasion.

Mosimane, who was embraced by other supporters inside the ground, also claimed to have once again had foul language directed at him and suggested that the tensions may have been orchestrated by the club’s current hierarchy.

“I don’t want to make excuses. It’s a game. You must remember that people play a game to take you to a different emotion,” he told the media after the match, according to the Kick Off website.

“At our level, I mean really guys, we play World Cup and then the blocking of what-what is a problem and that’s why we lost? No, it’s not about that. You know the person behind this. There is only one person behind all of this. But I’m strong in football and I’ve been around.

“I was at Mamelodi Sundowns [as a player] when [the club was owned by] Dr [Motsiri] Itswen, the first owner. I was here when it was Zola Mahobe. I was at Sundowns when it was [Angelo and Natasha] Tsichlas. I was at Sundowns when it was the Kroks.

“And I’ve been at Sundowns under the current owner [Patrice Motsepe]… So, I have played for this team and I am coming a long way with this team. You cannot break my system, and in football, I am strong and powerful in my own personal capacity.”

Tensions have simmered between Mosimane and his former employers, in particular owner Patrice Motsepe, with several incidents taking place since his departure to Egypt in October 2020.

Latest spat in Pitso Mosimane – Mamelodi Sundowns feud

In May 2021 Mamelodi Sundowns demanded to be paid back commission fees relating to Mosimane’s 2020 contract extension.

Mosimane’s comments are the latest spat in a series of public rows between the two parties after Mosimane hit out at Mamelodi Sundowns’ handling and lack of apology after the first time he was subjected to abuse by Masandawana fans.
