Banyana Banyana have been given a financial boost by Sport Minister Nathi Mthethwa following their 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph.

Desire Ellis and her charges arrived from Morocco on Tuesday, and they were given the welcome they deserve by fototball fans and dignitaries.

Banyana Banyana were on Saturday crowned WAFCON champions after beating hosts Morocco 2-1 in the final, and that meant securing the R9.2 million bonus promised to them by the South African Football Association (SAFA).

Now, Mthethwa, through the Sport, Arts and Culture department, handed Banyana Banyana a R5.8 million cheque upon their arrival at the OR Tambo International Airport.

HOW MUCH BANYANA BANYANA WILL NOW GET IN BONUSES

The newly crowned African Queens will share almost double of what they were promised before the start of the WAFCON finals.

In total, Banyana Banyana now have R15 million in bonuses, and that will be shared among the 23 players that took part in the tournament.

This means each player will receive just over R650 000 for their efforts in the continental showpiece in Morocco.
